Night and Fog in Montreal

Leaving the metro today, I found Montreal had been suddenly wreathed in fog.

The streetlights turned into gaslights from the Victorian era, and the park into a lonely stretch of moor.

It didn’t last long, I barely had time to get home and grab my camera before the strange landscape slipped back to the mundane streets and alleys I walk every day.

L’Amour Sorcier

I had the great pleasure to shoot the ECM+ performance of L’Amour Sorcier yesterday at the Salle Pierre-Mercure here in MontrĂ©al.

It was a stunning performance, and the piece itself reminds me a great deal of Stravinsky’s The Firebird, which is probably not surprising since they are roughly from the same era.

Shooting in a concert hall where you have no control whatsoever over the light is always difficult. Add in no flash allowed and limited range of movement so as not to disturb the audience and it really is a case of just staying alert to what opportunities present themselves.
